Measuring for your new curtains

Selecting poles

Select your desired curtain rod first. This will be your guide to the length of your curtain.

Standard curtain rods are hung 6" above a window frame with an allowance of 2"-3" on each side of the window . The length of your curtain panels will depend on your bottom point and any of these numbers can be adjusted to enhance a window.

When measuring use a metal rule for accuracy.

To measure the width, measure the full length of you curtain rail / pole including any overlaps.

To measure the drop, measure from where you want the top of your curtains to sit on the rail / pole to where you want them to finish.

Measuring your window

Measuring your window

Measuring for your new curtains couldn't be easier.

Begin by Measuring the total length of the pole, don't include the finials in your measurement.
Ensure that you allow for overlap with your curtains.

This is usually an additional 2.5cm (or 1 inch) that will allow your curtains to overlap in the middle when closed.

Your measurement should be the length of the track, not the width of the window because your track may be longer than the window width.

Overlapping curtain tracks

Overlapping curtain tracks

If you have a track which overlaps in the centre, measure the full length of the tracks Including the overlap (see diagram).

Curtain Drop

Curtain Drop

First decide whether you want your curtains to fall to the window sill, below the sill or to the floor.

For eyelet curtains the drop is from the eyelet rim at the top, to the bottom of the curtain.

Sill length curtains finish 1.25cm (1/2 inch) above the sill.
Curtains that fall below the sill finish 15cm (6 inches) below.
Floor length curtains finish 1.5cm (1/2 inch) from the floor
Please note: We will allow for hems and turnings.
